Uneven Skin Tone? Try Chemical Peels

Have you ever wished that your skin beneath the surface could look more youthful and radiant? Chemical peels are specifically capable of making that happen! Let’s dive into the world of chemical peels and learn how they function and what advantages they may have.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure that exfoliates the skin by using a chemical solution. The method by which the solution functions is to remove the outermost layers of skin, revealing smoother, younger skin cells underneath. Chemical peels can be used to treat a variety of issues on the hands, neck, and face.

How Does it Work?

There are three main types of chemical peels, varying in depth and intensity:

  • Light Peels: These are frequently used to treat uneven skin tone, minor acne, and sun damage since they target the skin's outermost layer. There is relatively little recovery time—just a few days of peeling.

  • Medium Peels: Medium-depth peels that penetrate deeper target fine lines, wrinkles, and deeper acne scars. A week or so of recuperation is to be expected, along with more obvious peeling.

  • Deep Peels: Deep peels are only used for severe sun damage and wrinkles since they penetrate the skin's deepest layers. Healing may take a few weeks and necessitate careful dermatological supervision.

Benefits of Chemical Peels:

Chemical peels offer a range of benefits, including:

  • Reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Improved skin texture and tone

  • Fading sun damage and age spots

  • Minimizing acne scars

  • Correcting uneven skin pigmentation

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

  • Chemical peels are suitable for everyone including all skin types, particularly those with sensitive skin or certain skin conditions.

  • Sun protection is crucial after a chemical peel, as the new skin is more susceptible to sun damage.

  • Be prepared for some downtime, especially with medium and deep peels.

It gets worse before it gets better

You might experience some or all of the following side effects in the initial days:

  • Dryness

  • Flakiness

  • Discoloration

  • Breakouts

Of course, the trademark of this powerful skin treatment is peeling, so be prepared for some flaking. But as the layers of your skin shed, the wrinkles, age spots, and UV damage they contain go with it.

Here at Potentia Medspa, we use a variety of peels required for your condition, so some flaking may be more intensive than others. It's best not to pull at the peeling; instead, let it happen naturally and let it flake away.

Skin usually heals entirely after a week or so for light, medium, and deep peels; however, it may take up to two weeks for deep peels. Make sure you use a decent broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin while it heals.
